Industry Overview

The need to bind and/or prevent un-controlled binding of biological materials to synthetic surfaces such as is enabled by Mix&Go spans many diverse application areas.

For example, one application area for Mix&Go surfaces is the global in vitro diagnostics (IVD) market which is expected to exceed US$60 billion by 2014. [Source: Pharmaceutical Market Research, 2010] Anteo’s technology platform is ideally positioned to support the technology advancements driving IVD growth. Point of Care (POC) testing dominates the IVD market and is estimated to grow into an US$18 billion market by 2012. [Source: Research and Markets, 2010]. The trend towards patient testing in a variety of different settings is part of the shift to detecting diseases at earlier, more easily treatable stages. In part, the growth in POC sales is largely related to significant increases in monitoring chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, arthritis and cancer. Critical care and cardiac markers, infectious diseases testing and screening for drugs of abuse all benefit from rapid, on-the-spot results, and a wide range of test formats has evolved. After Point of Care testing, immunoassay is the second largest segment with a market of US$7.7 billion and a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%. [Source: Scientia Advisors, 2010] Growth in the immunoassay market will be driven by technology advancements such as the emergence of ultra-sensitive platforms which enable detection of substances at minute concentrations and multiplex technologies which allow simultaneous analysis of multiple compounds.

In nearly all cases, these test formats depend on the fidelity and sensitivity of biological recognition systems linked to some readout device to enable detection of various substances. In other words, there is a need to locate minute quantities of biological recognition molecules such as antibodies to some specific location on a synthetic surface. Mix&Go addresses this need.
